Blue grass and bourbon
If you like bourbon or driving along quaint picket-fence farms (or both), the bluegrass state will not be a disappointment. My husband and I flew to Lexington, taking advantage of cheap airfare and then drove around tasting bourbon in order to complete the Bourbon Trail. We ordered the Passports beforehand (yes, there is a Bourbon Trail Passport) and got our stamps in all the distilleries. Add to that road trip other attractions, like Mammoth Cave National Park, Churchill Downs (we missed the Kentucky Derby by days - insert sad face here), and staying a night in the Wigwam Village Inn #2 (definitely a unique experience, but the husband would have preferred something a little bit more comfy) and you got yourself a trip full of stories to tell over the years.
